"And Elohim said, let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth." -Genesis 1:26
In the above Scriptural passage, do you notice the "let Us" in the statement? Well, that is a correct translation, "let Us!" Why?
Let's logically proceed through this. Hypothetically speaking if you were an omnipotent, everlasting being that is Self-Existent, all things that do exist, exist because of you or because you exist and maintain them, and say you are tired of being alone. So, the first thing you do is create a being or beings to keep you company and maybe to amuse you for a while. Then you find that the beings you created are just like you with a difference, they are not beings that exist in all locations at all and any time simultaneously and some of them decide to choose another path or authority to follow! So, then you decide to create some more, but these you give lesser capabilities and instead of making them eternal as yourself and the other beings you give them the ability to choose life or death! Yeah, Mankind, human beings, such frail and complicated creatures, however they can choose whether to live or die!
You see the term or Hebrew word "Elohim" is a family of mighty ones/beings not necessarily physically equal in capability. It has been purposely mistranslated, rather, replaced with the Hebrew name "God" (pronounced "gawd," meaning to crowd upon, to attack, overcome, fortune [troop], a Babylonian deity). "And Leah's slave-girl Zilpah bore a son to Jacob. And Leah said, With fortune. And she called his name Gad." -Genesis 30:10-11 To further the deception they correctly transliterate the name of Jacob's son as "Gad," however that just adds to the deception for it is pronounced "gawd" or "god".
The "Us" refers to the Self-Existent, Omnipotent Being that causes all else to exist and His reflection, Spokesman, Master Worker, His first created son whom the majority erroneously call "Jesus." "And take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set on the head of Yahshua, the son of Yahzadak, the high priest. And speak to him, saying, So says Yahweh of Hosts, saying, Behold! The man whose name is THE BRANCH! And he shall spring up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of Yahweh...And she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Yahshua, for He (Yahweh) shall save (shua) His people (Israel = a prince that wrestles with Elohim and men and prevails) from their sins." -Matthew 1:21 and Zechariah 6:11-12
Yes, erroneously, because to have such a name he would have to had been a Latin-Greek as the name is of Latin and Greek origin! Yet, he is Hebrew or an ethnic Jew, whom speak Hebrew or one of it's dialects such as Aramaic, therefore in the Hebrew or any other language his name is "Yahshua" (Yah = Yahweh + Shua = saves/salvation) You must then take into account that he, himself, says that he came in his Fathers name. "I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive that one...The one believing in him is not condemned; but the one not believing has already been condemned, for he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of Yahweh...This ONE is the Stone counted worthless by you the builders, the ONE who has come to be in the Head of the Corner; and there is salvation in no other ONE, for neither is there any other NAME under Heaven having been given among men by which we must be (or even can be) saved." -John 5:43, 3:18, and Acts 4:11-12
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, says Yahweh, the One who is, and who was, and who is coming, the Almighty...The one who rejects me and does not receive My Words has that judging him: the Word which I spoke, that will judge him in the last Day. For I did not speak from myself, but He who sent me, the Father, He has given me command, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Then what things I speak, as the Father has said to me, so I speak." -Revelation 1:8 and John 12:48-50
So, the first (alpha) created son became the first and the last (omega) begotten son of Yahweh as mankind rejected and rejects the authority of Yahweh Elohim over him, and in this we understand that this took place that the Yahweh's Messiah (Yahweh's anointed King) may show mankind how to walk, live, or exist as a reflection of the Father, don't infer any of that "Superman II" crap here. We are told that nothing that was created was created without him, for through him all things existent were created. He is the Spokesman and Master Worker of the Almighty! His actions and ways are a reflection of the Almighty, although he is not the Almighty as nominal religion has taught all it's followers and adherents.
Just as if you had a laser pointer aimed at a wall, all those observing believe that the light originates at the wall, for in reference to them it dose, although it is just a reflection of the true source of the light. All things are relative to the observer (Law of "Special" Relativity). Yet, appearances can be deceiving as most are! The Messiah Yahshua is the reflection of the Almighty and he came in his Father's name as it is part of his name. In the middle east names have great meaning even though here in the west we place no meaning on a persons name.
Therefore, the "Us" refers to Almighty Yahweh and His first created, first and last begotten son Yahshua the Messiah. That is the reason why the term "Elohim" is used in Genesis Chapter One as it was the Elohim family, named Yahweh Elohim (which can and dose refer to Yahweh Himself) as He is all things and all things exist and continue to exist because of Him! Even the Messiah tells John in "Revelation" not to bow down before him as we should worship only Yahweh the source of our life and the number of our days, if only we would listen to His word as given to us by His Spokesman Yahshua the Messiah through the prophets and apostles!
"And I fell before his feet to worship him, but he said to me, Behold! Stop! I am a fellow-slave of yours, and of your brothers, having the testimony of Yahshua. Worship Yahweh. For the testimony of Yahshua is the spirit of prophecy."-Revelation 19:10
